HOPE worldwide Nigeria is undertaking a
mapping exercise in Lagos State to assess the system of protection available
for Children and Families. The Research will be led by Child Frontiers from
Hong Kong. As a way to ensure sustainability and retention of this skill and
technology in-country, we have agreed to have a team of Local Research experts
who will participate in the finalization of the research tools, collection of
data, reporting and validation of findings.
As a
Child focused organization, HOPE worldwide Nigeria is committed to the protection of
children and does not employ consultant whose background is not suitable for
working with children. All employment is conditioned upon the successful
completion of all applicable background checks where necessary
Position: RESEARCHERS
1 x female (women and girls group

The
researcher is responsible for the primary data collection with key informants,
officials and communities, in accordance with the specified protocols and
methodology. The researcher will work in a team along with other researchers
and report to the senior researcher.
Location: Based
in Lagos, with travel in rural areas around the country, as required for the
research process
Duration: 6
weeks starting from June (one week for the training in first mission, then
second week at the beginning of the data collection in communities which will
go on for about 3 weeks, plus one week for survey and secondary research)
Key tasks:

To participate in the training for the research team;
·
To provide feedback and recommendations for improvement and adaptation of
the research methodology and tools utilized;
·
To conduct data collection according to the plan, protocols, methodology,
and tools and to clearly and accurately document the findings;
·
To report shortcomings or challenges to the senior researcher in a timely
manner;
·
To participate in and provide input to the daily research team debriefing
meeting;
·
To participate and provide input to the final research debriefing meeting
(to take place upon completion of the community-level research);
·
Researchers may also be asked to:
- Assist in the development and preparation of the final report in order to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness;
- Conduct secondary research as required to support the analysis process.
Experience
and Skills:
·
Native speaker of regional language/s, as well as spoken and written
fluency in English;
·
A degree or experience in a subject relevant to this study, preferably
either social work or social sciences, as
well as significant experience of working within child protection / welfare
systems;
·
Experience in research and data collection (in the child protection or
social welfare sectors preferred) and at least one of the following
methodologies:
- [Participatory methodologies – Proven ability to facilitate participatory methodologies such as Focus Groups with children and adults;
- [Quantitative and qualitative methodologies – Proven ability to conduct semi structured and structured interviews, ability to take precise and faithful notes, ability to rigorously compile data.

Demonstrated capacity to use common communication technology, word
processing software and spreadsheets;
·
Familiarity with government officials at the local level;
·
Familiarity with communities and experience in community-based work;
·
Excellent verbal communication, strong analytical and strong writing
skills;
·
Must be able to take initiative, be proactive, flexible, reliable, and
solution focused.
